Christine Smith was born and brought up in Kelso, Scottish Borders. After leaving school in 1972, she spent 9 months in north west Sicily with a village craft project where, along with a group of students from Dartington Hall school, she helped to establish a pottery in Scopello near Palermo.
Christine then went on to complete a foundation and 3 year course in ceramics at Bath Academy of Art under the tutor ship of John Colbeck.

She gained a first class BA in 1977 and immediately went on to set up the pottery at Barnbarroch, along with Rodger, who had been running a fine art casting business in Yorkshire.

Christine works as a full time potter in Galloway, and has two children. Most of her work is sold directly from the showroom, but she has exhibited work throughout Scotland and the UK.
