Oil on canvas, 21 1/2" x 26" (54.6 x 66cm), signed.Fryer attended the Leeds College of Art between 1926/32. From 1937 throughout the war years until 1947 she taught at the Bath Academy where her colleagues and friends included William and Mary Scott. The Irish influence encouraged her to make many trips to Ireland in the fifties, particularly to the Aran Islands and Connemara. Her Irish paintings of this period have always been very popular. She became friends with Walter Sickert and his wife Therese Lessore. She has exhibited at the Royal Academy, New English Art Club, Yorkshire Society of Artists, Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Royal Academy, Leeds City Art Gallery, Harrogate Museum and Art Gallery and The University of Birmingham.
