Nigel Rolfe
Performance Artist, Senior Critic

Mr. Rolfe attended the Farnham School of Art in the U.K. from 1969 to 1971, and the Bath Academy of Art in 1974. His work spanning photography, sound and visual performance has received international acclaim and has been shown or performed in venues such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Franklin Furnace in New York, and the Institute for Contemporary Art Gallery in London. With a practice based in Dublin, Ireland, he is co-founder of Black Market, a pan-European performance art group. He has lectured in many schools in Europe and North America, was a member of the faculty at Yale University from 1983 to 1985 and at the Royal College of Art from 1986 to 1991. He is also a critic for the Chelsea College of Art in the London Institute, and a Course Tutor on Fine Arts at the Royal College of Art in England. Mr. Rolfe has been a Senior Critic at Penn since 1991.
